Between June 10 and June 22, 2003, nine members of the
Chimayó Youth Conservation Corps put in ten full days of learning
about trails and how to build them in the Cerrillos Hills. Under the overall
direction of Suellen Strale and Lynn Cravens, the CYCC
(Email contact) provides summer educational
opportunities and activities in conservation for Santa Fe county students.
The effect of this project was to connect the north and south ends of the new
Coyote Trail to the existing primary trail system and to bypass the "bluff"
(see the map link below). The CYCC crew was attentive and hard-working. Great
work, guys!
Thanks go to Attila Bality of the National Park Service Rivers & Trails \
Assistance Program for his patience and technical expertise. Thanks too to CYCC
Supervisor John Roybal and his industrious and energetic crew: James Salazar,
Tilo Martinez, Miles Butcher, Emanuel Trujillo, John Martinez, Antonio Martinez,
Josh Vialpando, and David Martinez. All of you are now a part of the history of
the Cerrillos Hills Historic Park!
Additional phases of the CYCC project took place July 14-18, 21-25, August 12-15,
September 13-14, & 27-28.

April 18, 2003 Good Friday. About 60 parishoners of St.
Joseph's Church of Cerrillos commemorated the Friday of Holy Week with the
traditional Pilgrimage. Led by Fr. Donnen and Deacon Tom, for the third
consecutive year the Pilgrimage followed the original route through the Cerrillos
Hills, and concluded with a 2 PM service at the Church.
