Canyon Towhee- confirmed presence; one
of the most common birds in the area

Size: 8.5" - American sparrow
Plain brown above, pale gray below; crown rufous, throat buffy, necklace brown
dots; large brown chest spot; eyes yellow; tail long, rounded; feeds on ground.
Brown above, gray below; cap rufous; eyebrow white, eye line black.
Its song is a series of chip notes, which gives it its name.
The Chipping sparrow eats large amounts of seeds on the ground, and insects. Its
nest is grasses and rootlets lined with hair, built in low trees and shrubs.
Male: rufous; streaked black above; underparts, crown, cheeks, rump gray; one
white wing bar; throat and upper chest black; only chin black winter; chestnut
stripe behind eye. Female: brown, blackish back streaks; buffy streak above eye;
paler below. Hogs seed, kills nestlings and eggs.
