Red-breasted Nuthatch - possible presence

MR reports: observed in September 2002 in elm trees in Cerrillos.

White-breasted Nuthatch - confirmed presence

Sitta carolinensis

Size: 6" - Nuthatch

Back gray-blue; face, underparts white; crown narrow, black; vent, sides, washed rusty. Creeps headfirst down trunks.

Sighted at the Leonora Curtin Natural History Area (a lush, well-watered preserve 3 miles north of Cerro Bonanza, near La Ciénega)
