CERRILLOS HILLS STATE PARK




Grebe, Heron, Egret

The immediate area of the Cerrillos Hills State Park lacks habitat suitable for these water birds and as a consequence they rarely seen here. They do occur nearby, and may occassionally be seen from the Hills while on the wing, or as an accidental visitor.

- Pied-billed Grebe, recorded April 15, 1998
- Great Blue Heron
- Great Egret, recorded April 15, 1995
- two Snowy Egrets, recorded May 3, 1997
- two Cattle Egrets, recorded May 6, 1997
- Green Heron.

IN OTHER NEIGHBORHOODS

Sighted at the Leonora Curtin Wetland Preserve (a lush, well-watered preserve 3 miles [4.8 kilometers] north of Cerro Bonanza, near La Ciénega.)

Pied-billed Grebe, Horned Grebe, Eared Grebe and Western Grebe - TRANSIENT (fall & spring)
American Bittern - SUMMER
Great Blue Heron - ALL YEAR
Snowy Egret, Green Heron, & Black-crowned Night Heron - TRANSIENT and SUMMER
