A star party starring just one star - our sun. Join us at the Cerrillos Hills Analemma
for sun gazing, sun stories and sun facts. Find out how the analemma tracks the
sun throughout the year. Meet at the analemma structure in the gravel parking lot.
The Cerrillos Beach Fossil Hike, Sunday November 8, 2–4pm
Join Ranger Roberto for a hike along the ancient beach at Cerrillos and visit the
strange creatures preserved there. Meet at the main parking lot on County Road 59,
½ mile north of the village of Cerrillos.
Spring Restoration Hike, Saturday November 14, 10am &ndash noon
Join Earthworks Institute staff for a guided hike to a spring in the park they
have spent the last year restoring. We'll discuss the thought that goes into
designing spring restoration, the process of restoration and monitoring. Meet at
the Cerrillos Hills State Park office, 37 Main Street.
Astronomy Adventure, November 21, 7–9pm
Renowned regional astronomer and self-described cosmonut Peter Lipscomb will be
aiming his very large 24 inch telescope at the skies above the park this evening.
You don't want to miss this one. Park in the gravel parking lot near the vault
toilet; staff will guide you up the Village Vista Trail to the telescope.
History Hike with Bill Baxter, November 22, 10am – noon
Local historian Bill Baxter, the man who knows too much, will take us on a leisurely
and historical walk through the Cerrillos Hills. He'll cover the Hills' long
pre-history and explosive beginnings. Meet at the parking lot off County Road 59,
½ mile north of the village of Cerrillos.
Lose Your Turkey Hike, November 28, 10 am
Join Ranger Roberto for a hike designed to work off the turkey and pie you may
have recently stuffed yourself with. Meet at the parking lot off County Road 59,
½ mile north of the village of Cerrillos.
Off the Beaten Path Hike November 29, 10 am – noon
Take a guided hike off the beaten path up one of Cerrillos' many canyons where
we'll explore the bird and plant life. Binoculars will be provided for bird viewing.
The canyons are rocky and footing unpredictable so wear sturdy shoes and bring a
spare pair of ankles. Meet at the parking lot off County Road 59, ½ mile
north of the village of Cerrillos; we will carpool from there.
Sidewalk Astronomy in Cerrillos, Wednesday December 16, 6pm
– 8pm
Join the rangers for some hot chocolate and cool bright stars in the Village of
Cerrillos. We'll have the telescope set up outside the office at 37 Main Street.
