An aerial view of the spring of the Arroyo de las Minas
North is at the top.
Geologically, this is one of the most varied portions of the Park. In the years
since this photograph was made the roadway has been reworked several times, and
the spring has been reshaped by machinery so that it pools at "five o'clock" on
the bend in the road. Presently, though there is limited use by some free-range
cattle and possibly local wildlife, there is no sign of life in the vicinity of
the spring other than rust-colored slime algae.
The primary loop trail of the Cerrillos Hills Historic Park crosses this view
from left to right. Along the upper edge of the blue-gray area to the left of the
road the trail descends to the roadway, along it to the spring, and from the
spring up the hill to the right to connect with the crude road at the right of the
photo. There are several mines in the vicinity of the crude road.
