CERRILLOS HILLS HISTORIC PARK

An aerial view of Elkins Canyon

North is at the top.

The Arroyo de las Minas is along the right side of this image.

Barely visible in this view: San Marcos Arroyo in the lower right corner, and the railroad tracks in the lower left corner.

Elkins Canyon, in the center of this view, also known as White Rocks Canyon, is an area of exposed Monzonite, the granite-like stone that underlies much of the Cerrillos Hills. It becomes more pale as it weathers.
